Polyworks Stone Showroom. Phnom Penh, Cambodia

In a compact retail unit in Cambodia, this project explores how the experience of natural stone can extend beyond the physical limitations of space.

The showroom has been conceived as a carefully controlled environment where material takes centre stage. Rather than relying solely on the traditional display of large and heavy slabs, the project is built around a complementary system introduced by the client: the high-resolution scanning of stone at source, allowing each piece to be presented at full scale within the store.

This approach shifts the role of the showroom. Instead of acting as a warehouse of inventory, it becomes a place of understanding — where the full character of each slab can be appreciated before selection. Veining, variation, and imperfections are revealed in their entirety, offering a more accurate and informed experience of the material.

Physical samples remain essential. Smaller stone pieces are integrated throughout the space, allowing for direct contact with texture, weight, and temperature. The project is therefore defined by a balance between the tactile and the digital, where each reinforces the other.

Spatially, the design is intentionally restrained. Warm, controlled lighting and a reduced material palette create a calm backdrop that allows the stone to stand out. Display elements are carefully integrated to maximise clarity while maintaining a sense of openness within the limited footprint.

The result is a showroom that operates beyond its size — a compact space designed to hold something much larger: the full presence of natural stone.
