Hospitality Mar de Frades. Valiñas, Spain
Nestled in the heart of Galicia’s renowned wine region, the Mar de Frades Valiñas estate offers a unique blend of tradition and modernity, where the art of Albariño wine production meets an unparalleled hospitality experience. This project aims to elevate the brand's connection to its surroundings by creating an immersive journey for visitors, celebrating both the region’s natural beauty and the craftsmanship behind every bottle of Mar de Frades wine.
The design embraces the stunning landscape, with sweeping views of the Atlantic Ocean and the lush vineyards that cascade towards the sea. Natural light floods the building through expansive windows, seamlessly blending the indoor and outdoor environments. The architectural layout harmoniously integrates with the estate’s contours, ensuring that every corner provides uninterrupted panoramic views of the vineyards and the ocean beyond.
The project is built on two levels, each designed with specific purposes to enhance the visitor experience. The upper floor, the "Mirador Level," offers a dramatic entrance plaza with a spectacular lookout over the vineyards and the sea. This space is designed to welcome guests with a grand gesture, ensuring their first impression is nothing short of breathtaking. Inside, a glass façade allows guests to remain connected to the natural beauty surrounding them, while a thoughtfully curated shop offers them the chance to take a piece of the Mar de Frades experience home.
Descending to the "Vineyard Level," visitors are immersed in a world of wine education and sensory exploration. A versatile tasting room, equipped with the latest technology, allows for professional tastings and events, while an adjoining multifunctional space can host workshops, presentations, or private celebrations. Floor-to-ceiling windows frame the majestic views, creating an inspiring and delightful environment for every guest.
The design of the building takes inspiration from the flowing waves of the Atlantic Ocean, with an undulating roof that echoes the movement of the sea. The warm, golden tones of the copper exterior, reminiscent of the Albariño wine, add a sophisticated touch, while also ensuring durability in the region’s humid, salty climate. Over time, the copper will develop a natural patina, further integrating the building with its surroundings.
Sustainability is a core pillar of this project. Solar panels atop the parking structures and the roof of the existing building will generate renewable energy, while a rainwater collection system will supply water for the gardens. Locally sourced materials, including Galician granite and wood, will be used throughout, reinforcing the project’s commitment to sustainability and local craftsmanship.
With its thoughtful blend of innovation, tradition, and sustainability, this hospitality project invites visitors to not only discover the process behind the celebrated Mar de Frades Albariño, but also to experience the essence of Galicia itself—a region where land and sea come together in perfect harmony.
