This proposal is for the refurbishment of an existing 21,500 sqm sports facility located on Barcelona's northern stretch of coastline facing the Balearic Sea. Just a block away from the landmark 'three chimneys', a prospective cultural asset of local interest, it serves a strong reminder of Barcelona's Industrial past. 

 

Our scheme proposes a reconfiguration of spaces to transform the facility from a rather enclosed and inward-looking arrangement to one which seeks to take advantage of the beautiful coastline at the rear of the site. A key move was shifting the main entrance from the back street Carrer de Delores to the expansive side walk, immediately strengthen a visitors connection to the water front. The centralised entrance courtyard accommodates food and beverage and retail offerings adjacent to the new entrance lobby, strategically positioned at the heart of the site to connect the existing indoor facilities with the new external swimming pool and sports courts beyond.

The indoor swimming pool and main sports hall are retained, whilst the remaining facilities, amenity and a new gym are positioned to offer vistas towards the sea. A low level canopy provides a sheltered link from the new lobby to the external clubhouse and pool. Offset from the new spine, a generous tree lined path connects to all external facilities including; a frontón court, padel courts, climbing walls, a waterscape and crazy golf, with volleyball courts, a boat house and veranda overlooking the Balearic Sea.
